Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for a relaxing stay. Embark on a city tour that includes visits to significant landmarks such as the Gandan Monastery, where you can witness local prayers, observe monks, and marvel at the largest indoor Buddha statue. Explore the National Museum of Mongolia, which showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage spanning from the Stone Age to the present day. Finally, visit Sukhbaatar Square, also known as Chingis Khaan Square, a central gathering point of historical and cultural importance. Enjoy the tour and indulge in a delightful lunch/dinner.

Day 2Fly to Western Mongolia

Fly to Ulgii, the central town of Bayan-Ulgii province, known for its predominantly Kazakh population with a distinct language and rich culture. Discover the fascinating tradition of Eagle hunting, for which the Kazakhs are renowned. Upon arrival, meet our local team and hop on our vehicle. Begin by visiting the local museum to gain insights into the Bayan-Ulgii province and its majority ethnic group, the Kazakhs. Then, we’ll drive to Sagsay River to meet an eagle hunter’s family. In the evening, return to Ulgii town and spend the night at a local hotel or a ger camp. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 3Arrive at Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain

Today, we will venture towards the Altai Mountain area, making our way to Shiveet Khairkhan mountain. This location is the closest accessible point to the Altai peaks by car, situated at an altitude of 2500-3000 meters. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to visit a local Kazakh family, immersing ourselves in their way of life and renting horses for our upcoming journey. Capture portraits and snapshots of their daily routines, as the Kazakhs have distinct traditions and a larger Ger dwelling compared to the Khalkha majority group. Get ready for our three-day trek to the Altai peaks by preparing our luggage. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 4 Altai Tavan Bogd Peak

We disembark from our vehicle and transfer our luggage onto horses before embarking on a trek towards the Altai Tavan Bogd peaks, ranging from 4100 to 4374 meters in height. Capture stunning photographs of horse or camel caravans that beautifully complement the rocky and snow-capped mountains characteristic of Western Mongolia’s landscape. Eventually, we will reach the base of these towering peaks. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 5Potanin Glacier and Mount Altai Tavan Bogd

We commence our trek towards Potanin Glacier and Mount Altai Tavan Bogd, the highest peaks in Mongolia. These peaks, collectively known as Tavan Bogd or the Holy Five Peaks, include Khuiten Uul at 4374 meters, as well as Peak Malchin, Peak Naran, Peak Burged, and Peak Olgii. As we trek, we will encounter glaciers that connect these majestic peaks. You will have the opportunity to capture breathtaking images of all five peaks, including the impressive Potanin Glacier. We will reach the base camp and spend the night there. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 6Tsagaan Gol - White river

We continue our journey towards Tsagaan Gol, also known as the White River, where we can either change our horses or take a moment to relax if we have been trekking. The distinct milky color of the river is a result of glacial milk, a fine powder of eroded rock from the nearby glaciers. This picturesque location provides ample opportunities for capturing stunning landscape photographs and documenting the local people. We will set up tents near a nomad family, giving us the chance to engage in conversations and share our experiences with them. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 7-8Khoton and Khurgan Lakes

We embark on a two-day trek towards the enchanting Khoton and Khurgan lakes. These lakes are the sources of Mongolia’s second largest lake, Khar Us (Black Water). With their crystal-clear waters, they are nourished by numerous rivers and streams originating from the Altai Mountains. The landscape surrounding the lakes is a picturesque sight to behold, featuring snow-capped mountains, lush green meadows at their foothills, larch forests in between, and even sand dunes. This area provides an ideal setting for hiking and birdwatching. Throughout our journey, we will have the opportunity to visit local families, enriching our cultural experience. Our vehicle will follow us, carrying our luggage and camping gear. We will rest and enjoy lunch along the way before continuing our trek towards our next camping spot. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 9-10Beautiful Lakes and Baga Turgen waterfall

Upon arriving at the stunning lakes, take some time to rest and relax. You have the option to partake in hiking and trekking activities to further explore the area’s natural beauty. Enjoy the breathtaking surroundings and indulge in a picnic lunch amidst the scenic backdrop. Afterward, we will return to Khoton Khurgan lake and spend the night at the tent camp. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 11Lake Tolbo

We proceed on our journey towards Khovd town, passing by another picturesque lake along the way. We will have the opportunity to visit a local family, immersing ourselves in their culture and way of life. For the night, we will set up our tents near Lake Tolbo, providing a peaceful and scenic camping experience. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Day 12Ulgii Town

We return to Ulgii town, completing our adventurous expedition. Upon arrival, we will transfer you to your hotel for a comfortable stay. Enjoy your meals throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
